A web of family lies and a young woman in search of the truth. Through her own voice, Asmae, daughter and filmmaker, oscillates between national history and personal history to tell the story of the bread riots in 1981 and show how this event is linked to contemporary Moroccan society.

Asmae El Moudir is a Moroccan director, screenwriter and producer who lives between Paris and Rabat. She studied at La Fémis and holds a master’s degree in production from the Higher Institute of Information and Communication in Rabat. Asmae has produced numerous documentaries presented in Festivals around the world, and distinguished by major national and international awards. After several short films, she directed the medium-length documentary The Postcard in 2020. The Mother Of All Lies is her first feature film. The film was selected for Un Certain Regard (Cannes 2023) where it won the Best Director Prize and the Golden Eye.
